We always hear people talk about how important what you put into your body is. Living with an auto immune disease, especially one of the digestive tract, it’s hard to really believe that. – At least for me. While I understand food does have an impact on your overall health, there are so many things that are out of our control completely. So many people get diseases like Cancer, Lupus, Cystic Fibrosis, ect., yet live a perfectly healthy lifestyle. Why? This is why for a long time I didn’t stress what I ate.
Over these past few weeks I’ve been trying to live better. No specific reason. I’d like to lose weight. Also, since I’ve had my colon removed I deal with Pouchitis quite a bit. My doctor suggested a low carb / low calorie diet. – I paid it no mind. I just didn’t want to restrict myself. I mean I love food! – But recently I decided to give it a shot. I’ve been tracking my calories and carbs through an app and while I’m not 100% sure if it’s helped with my Pouchitis, I will say I’ve been feeling pretty good.
Everyday I’ve been eating greens, fish, fruits and veggies. – Everyday I go to the gym and have a good workout! A few nights ago I decided to take a break from my diet and get a burger and fries from a fast food restaurant. – To say I felt it the next morning is an understatement! I left for the gym around 6AM, just as I’d done the day before. Things that normally take me minutes seemed to take much longer. I was moving sluggish and just felt lazy to be honest.
Food is Fuel
I realize now that while food may not cure chronic illness, it can make you feel good! I’m not saying to go on some crazy diet or even restrict yourself. – Talk with a doctor or a nutritionist about what’s right for you. Since changing my diet I’ve had more energy and even a bit of a better attitude!
