Hi family! It’s been a while since I’ve given a proper introduction to myself, the blog and  my YouTube Channel. Because there are so many new members to our Strong Family, I thought it’d only be right to re-introduce myself and explain what Chronically Strong is all about.

I’m Shawntel Bethea, but I mostly go by Shawn. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and thanks to modern medicine and a sprinkle of Jesus, I had a few life-saving surgeries and now live a semi-normal lifestyle. You can read my IBD Story: Diagnosis, Steroids, Biologics, IPAA Jpouch Surgery here. In 2014 I decided to Share My Story in a Blog, which has since become Chronically Strong. YAY! – I love having my own space to express myself and share what’s on my mind. Since creating Chronically Strong I’ve talked to quite a few patients and have done some Advocacy Work. Originally I shared nothing but things related to IBD, occasionally some Mental Health, but my blog has really transformed since then. – Mainly because of how much I have transformed! I went from a small, timid little girl, to a small, somewhat more open young women! Lol, kidding. My views of the world have changed so much. My wants and dreams. My condition has inspired me to go further, try harder and experience life in a way I never have before. Chronically Strong isn’t just about IBD and neither am I!

I try to use my work and story to inspire and empower patients to become partners in their own healthcare. I also aim to normalize conversations about IBD and Mental Health.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

I started blogging about Mental Health because My Mother Was Diagnosed with Schizophrenia. It complicated things growing up and I didn’t talk about it for a long time. In my adulthood, I was diagnosed with an Anxiety-Depression disorder. I think it’s important to talk about these things and break the stigma.
