NATIONAL NURSE (APPRECIATION) WEEK: What is it and Why?

Yesterday, May 6th, was annual Nurse Day. We celebrate to raise awareness of the importance of nurses and the role they play in our healthcare and lives. May 6th also marks the beginning of national Nurses Week (May 6th – May 12th). The last day, May 12th marks the birth of English nurse Florence Nightingale who is known as the “founder of professional nursing.”

What Is Nurse Appreciation Week

I’ve heard of this (week) in the past. I have a few nurses in my family that I’ve always sent a message of appreciation (to), but I never actually knew why. If you’re like me, I hope this helps! I personally love this (particularly this year). There’s a trend on Twitter . Doctors, patients, people all over the country are using the hashtag #ShareAStoryInOneTweet to share their stories of praise for nurses. It’s amazing to see such love! I high encourage you to check it out and maybe even consider sharing a story (or many) of your own!

At times it can be easy for us to share the bad. We tweet about it, post on Yelp and other review sites, request managers, ect. This week is dedicated to the opposite! Show nurses some love this year in any way you can! Even if it’s simple as making their shift a little easier with a smile.
